Bootloaders§

Breed§

An alternative bootloader for routers with Broadcom and MediaTek processors. Its web interface or Telnet console is used to write the firmware, EEPROM and other partitions.

More about Breed

KeenBOOT§

A proprietary bootloader for routers based on MediaTek MT7621 and MT7981 with a web interface: firmware installation, full dump, backups.

Partitions and firmware§

EEPROM§

A flash memory partition with the Wi-Fi calibration and the MAC address. Every router has its own: without the right EEPROM, Wi-Fi works poorly or not at all. You can extract it from a dump and set the MAC in the tools.

U-Config§

A partition with the device's service data: serial number, service tag, service password and region. A new U-Config can be generated in the tools.

Full dump§

A complete backup of the router's entire flash memory. With it, the device can be returned to its original state.

OTA§

An over-the-air update: the new version is downloaded and installed right on the router, without files on a computer.

OpenWrt§

An open Linux-based firmware for routers. On some models our firmware is installed from it.

On the router§

KeenKit§

A router maintenance script: firmware updates from a file and over OTA, partition and Entware backups.

More about KeenKit

Entware§

A repository of extra software for the router. It is installed with the opkg package manager to the built-in memory or a USB drive.

Installing Entware

Mesh§

Several routers combined into one Wi-Fi network with shared management.

Mesh setup

Programs for the computer§

BreedEnter§

A Windows program that interrupts the system boot and opens the Breed bootloader without the Reset button.

How to use it

HFS§

HTTP File Server — a simple Windows program that shares files over the network. Breed downloads firmware files from it with the wget command.

PuTTY§

A Windows program for connecting to the router's console over Telnet or SSH.

TFTPD64§

A TFTP server program for Windows. Some factory bootloaders download the firmware file through it during recovery.

Connections§

Telnet§

A text console protocol. It is used to enter commands in the Breed bootloader — strictly one at a time.

SSH§

A secure connection to the router's console: for example, to install Entware or run KeenKit.

UART§

A serial port on the router's board. With a USB-UART adapter you can control the bootloader even when the system does not start.
